GM Might Soon to Bow Down to Toyota

Filed under: Fuel Economy — Administrator @ 4:52 pm

Just recently, Jerry York, has been elected as the latest member of the General Motors. The intelligent GM agent and advisor to Kirk Kerkorian aim for more changes and new improvements in the auto company. Considered as a well-traveled CFO, York has once taken part in the improvement of IBM and Chrysler. Much is expected again from him with is appointment as a member of the board at General Motors. Of course, his achievements at both IBM and Chrysler are at a lower scale compared to the new responsibilities and demands that he will be dealing with at GM.

Lately, General Motors has received many negative criticisms as regard to its future in auto business. Many, however, are also hoping that the highly intelligent and complicated York is just the perfect match for such a complicated task at GM. Last January, York disclosed his plans for the company’s improvement and rise through a speech that he delivered in Detroit in front of analysts. He became a member of the General Motors board early last February. But is Jerry York up for the great task?

General Motors has been the world’s number one automaker for the past 70 years and if ever Toyota really do surpass GM that would have an intense psychological effect on the entirety of the US industry which is sadly to say the last manufacturing sector where Americans still lead.

According to analysts for this year, Toyota Motors will succeed in overtaking General Motors and will become the new largest carmaker in the world. Looking back in the year 1931 when GM became the world’s numero uno, threats of toppling it down seems to be impossibility.

Well, the creditors of GM might settle if the auto company would file for bankruptcy. However, that would also mean total wipe out for Kerkorian. York, nevertheless, holds a positive regard for the company’s possibilities in the future. He simply comments that the problems that are affecting the company at present are caused by economic circumstances which are outside General motors and therefore beyond its control.

The positive views of York, however, are opposed to the negative perspective of certain analysts of equal capability. The stockholders at GM, nevertheless, are confident with York’s plans for improvements considering the fact that he has formerly worked with the leading auto manufacturers in the world.

Alfred Sloan and GM

Filed under: New Car Models — Administrator @ 3:11 am

Auto analysts are sure painting a terrible future for General Motors, indeed the recent Delphi bankruptcy is certainly bad news, but Alfred Sloan might have some things to say about all this. After all General Motors is certainly not the tight net-centric type company today that he built back then. Instead they have adopted the “core business” theories of modern MBA academia. Alfred Sloan would have never allowed the Unions to become so un-reality based in their demands and would have never allowed the under funded pension situation to get so far out of hand.
