GM Execs Forego Bonuses - General Motors Corp.’s Jack Smith and Rick Wagoner did not receive a bonus as part of their compensation in 2002 - Brief Article
GM’s executive compensation committee decided not to award cash bonuses due to “the current economic environment,” according to the proxy statement.
Smith’s base salary declined for the second consecutive year to $1.025 million after making $1.45 million in 2001. Other compensation totaled $187,773, and Smith was awarded 300,000 shares of common GM stock. He retired May 1.
In the absence of cash bonuses, restricted stock units will be delivered upon retirement or mutual separation.

Early on, a lot of people talked about dancing holograms on the dashboard and all those kinds of technologies that make great press releases. But we quickly determined it wasn’t about the technology. It was literally about being able to deliver a completely different approach to safety, security and peace of mind while you’re in a vehicle.

According to the Lavergne Group, which is based in Ville d’Anjou, Quebec, Canada, Vyteen PC135 is created using post-consumer five-gallon polycarbonate water bottles. GM uses the regenerated polycarbonate resin to produce metalized taillamp assemblies. The Vyteen PC 135 is injection molded to produce the back frame of the GM taillights.

One major achievement for OnStar is its adoption by a number of auto manufacturers other than GM. The list includes Audi, Volkswagen, Lexus and Acura, not to mention GM-allied brands, lsuzu and Subaru. In total, more than 60 vehicles on the market now come with OnStar.

Q. What have been your guiding tenets as you have developed OnStar?
Aside from OnStar, the other main provider to have survived the telematics shake-out is ATX Technologies. From his position, Huber sees maintaining a simple customer interface and stressing the safety features as the keys to successful evolution of the business. The perception of technical complexity is a turn-off to many consumers, argues Huber, who dislikes the word telematics for that very reason.
